Abstract

Most comminuted fracture of distal radius can be reduced by distraction. The type ¥±B fracture according to the Melone classification of intraarticular fracture of distal radius is characterized by its irreducibility of depressed fragment with distraction only.
We operated 16 cases of Melone type ¥±B fracture from March of 1995 to February of 1997 and followed the cases for more than 1 year. Clinical study about the prognostic factors was done using Demerit score and radiographic study.
Radial length, radial tilt, volar tilt were all within the acceptable range in all of cases after open reduction, bone graft and external fixation. The articular offset more than 3mm showed significant correlation with the prognosis.
The articular offset more than 3mm and accurate reduction of articular surface seemed to be most important prognostic factors in Melone type ¥±B fracture.
